Organic Balance

This centerpiece, christened "Patelle" (limpet), stands as a glass sculpture. Crafted during the heart of the 60s/70s by the Manufacture Royale du Val Saint Lambert in Belgium, this model embodies the creative boldness of an era focused on modernity and free-form shapes inspired by nature.

Marine Inspiration

The name of this model is no coincidence. The limpet, a seashell firmly anchored to our coastal rocks, inspired the master glassmakers to create a shape of rare power. The crystal, of high density (nearly 2 kg for just 22 cm in diameter), seems caught in mid-motion.
A fluid spiral begins in the heart of the transparent base, unfurling toward the edges in a dynamic vortex. The stretching of the material creates subtle variations in thickness: where the crystal thickens, the color concentrates and intensifies; where it thins, it lets light pass through with crystalline purity.

Hypnotic Hue: Lime Chartreuse Radiance

The true magic of this piece lies in its Lime Chartreuse green color. This iconic shade of the Pop and modernist years instantly catches the eye. Neither entirely green nor entirely yellow, it reacts spectacularly to its environment.
  • Under direct natural light: It radiates with an acidic, almost botanical freshness.
  • At the end of the day or under targeted lighting: It darkens, revealing deep, mysterious, and intensely precious reflections, typical of the manufacturer's cased crystal.
Placed on a teak sideboard or a statement table, it casts colorful shadows and shifting reflections, changing its appearance throughout the hours.

Signature and Authenticity

This piece carries the mark of excellent artisanal craftsmanship. It is hand-signed and engraved "Val St Lambert" under its base, a fine and authentic signature of the manufacturer. Listed in the "Modern Fancy Pieces" catalog of the crystal works, it bears witness to the modernist turn taken by the Belgian house.

The POPINCOURT Gallery's Opinion

What fascinates us about this "Patelle" model is its dynamism. While other crystal pieces of that era sought geometry or symmetry, Val Saint Lambert offers a true organic vortex here. Visually, the spiral movement is of absolute fluidity, evoking the quiet strength of a marine maelstrom or the perfection of a shell sculpted by the elements.
But the real aesthetic impact lies in its relationship with light. This Lime Chartreuse robe, a bold chromatic signature of the 60s, acts as an energy sensor. Depending on the time of day, the piece shifts from an acidic, vibrant green to much more confidential and precious golden reflections. It is a work of wild elegance that, placed on a teak sideboard, needs no artifice to exist: it polarizes the space on its own. An absolute favorite of the gallery.
Modernist art glass from the second half of the 20th century is experiencing a particularly dynamic period of historical re-evaluation on the international market.
• A safe bet for organic design: The free-form pieces produced by Val Saint Lambert during the 1960s and 1970s to compete with the hegemony of Murano or Scandinavian masters like Orrefors are now at the center of research by interior designers and collectors in Europe, the United States, and Asia.
• The criterion of chromatic rarity: While clear or smoked pieces appear regularly on the market, the Lime Chartreuse shade remains particularly rare and sought-after. Its ability to integrate perfectly into contemporary or Mid-Century Modern interiors actively supports its value.
• Heritage guarantee : The presence of the hand-engraved vintage signature under the base, corroborated by its explicit referencing in the "Modern Fancy Pieces" catalog, gives this example the status of a historical milestone. For an international collector, it is the assurance of a lasting, liquid heritage investment with high appreciation potential.
